Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped some serious bombshells during their 2-hour long interview with Oprah Winfrey. The couple, who are no more restricted by royal protocols, spoke their heart and mind out. While Meghan spoke in detail about life as a working royal member and her deteriorating mental health, Harry spoke about the ramifications of their major decision to step back from the royal family. He also remembered his mum Princess Diana several times during the interview.

For the unversed, after moving to the US, Harry and Meghan signed Netflix and Spotify deals worth millions. However, Harry said that it was 'never part of the plan'. The couple were forced to look at these lucrative offers after the royal family decide to hold back Harry's funds. The duke said "my family literally cut me off financially" in the first quarter of 2020 after they announced their decision.

He further revealed that it was funds left by his late mother Princess Diana that came to his rescue. "Without that, we wouldn't have been able to do this," Harry said, likely referring to his family's move to first Canada and then Los Angeles. The royal family also stripped them off security and it was Meghan's friend and actor Tyler Perry who offered them his security as well his home in the US.

The Duke of Sussex added, "All I wanted was enough money to get security and keep my family safe." Recalling their first few months in California and Tyler's help, Meghan said, "We didn’t have a plan and we needed a house and he offered security as well so it gave us breathing room to try to figure out what we were going to do."

Prince Harry also put it on record that he "never blindisided" his grandmother Queen Elizabeth about stepping back from royal family. "No, I never blindsided my grandmother. I have too much respect for her," Harry said that he spoke with her on three occasions and with his father Prince Charles on two occasions about his and Meghan's plan to leave the royal family.
