Oscars 2021 to be held in multiple locations due to COVID; Academy prioritizing public health above all
According to The Academy’s statement to Variety, Oscars 2021 will be held in multiple locations keeping in mind COVID safety protocols.
As the awards season gets delayed duo to coronavirus, we are being patient and waiting for the calm after the storm. And while COID safety is the need of the hour at the moment, many award academies are taking responsibility to do their best to maintain safety guidelines. Oscar for example, is stressing the importance of public health and safety amidst the global pandemic, and keeping that in mind, recently made a major announcement.
The Academy announced that keeping COVID protocols in mind, they will hold the ceremony in different places. Prior to this, the highly-anticipated award show was pushed back to late April 2021 from February 2021, although they traditionally take place in one large auditorium with everyone gathered to watch together. However, due to COVID-19 and the restrictions that will likely be in place in April, gatherings are not recommended.
The Academy announced the news via Variety, and in their statement, they said: “In this unique year that has asked so much of so many, the Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate. To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre. We look forward to sharing more details soon.”
This year’s show will take place on April 25.
