Keanu Reeves played the role of Neo in the hit science fiction franchise The Matrix. Reeves was not the first choice to play the role. Read to know who it was.
The Matrix is one of the iconic films in the history of cinema. This three-part fantasy science fiction was directed by Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski and has its loyal fan base even today. In a dystopian future, a computer programmer joins the rebellion to defeat the machines which have trapped humans in a simulated reality called as the Matrix. Recently, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that he wanted Sandra Bullock to play the role of Neo. Bonaventura said that actors like Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith were also considered for the role.
In an interview given to Wrap, he said, "We went out to so many people I don't remember. We were getting desperate. We went to Sandy Bullock and said 'We'll change Neo to a girl. (Producer) Joel Silver and I worked with Sandy on Demolition Man and she was and continues to be a very good friend of mine. It was pretty simple. We sent her the script to see if she was interested in it. And if she was interested in it we would try to make the change". He further added, "It just wasn't something for her at the time. So really it didn't go anywhere". According to Bullock's representative, the actor does not remember being offered this film but said that the right person was cast for it. She went on to add on how producer Bonaventura has always supported her career.
Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock were seen together in Speed (1994) as well as The Lake House (2006).
