Nicolas Cage claims he pushed Johnny Depp into acting when he actually wanted to be a musician
Nicolas Cage claimed he encouraged Johnny Depp to consider acting while he was renting his apartment in the ’80s. And surprisingly, the actor landed the first role he auditioned for.
Actor Nicolas Cage is taking all the credit for Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp's acting career. If a latest interview with Nicolas in anything to go by, then the Fast and Furious actor has revealed that he was the one to push Johnny Deep into the field of acting when he actually wanted to become a musician. Speaking to the New York Times Magazine, Cage claimed he encouraged Depp to consider acting while he was renting his apartment in the ’80s.
Nicolas Cage said, "We were good friends, and we would play Monopoly, and he was winning a game, and I was watching him and I said, ‘Why don’t you just try acting?’"Cage recalled in the interview. “He wanted to be a musician at the time, and he told me, ‘No, I can’t act.’ I said, ‘I think you can act.’ So I sent him to meet with my agent. She sent him out on his first audition, which was A Nightmare on Elm Street. He got the part that day. Overnight sensations don’t happen. But it happened with him."
