Nick Jonas finds it 'cool' and 'rare' that BTS have the freedom to dabble in individual and group songs
In a recent interview, Nick Jonas stated that BTS' ability to have the freedom as a group, where they can simultaneously tackle solo and band songs, is really rare.
Nick Jonas is currently gearing up for the release of Spaceman, his upcoming solo album set to drop on March 12 and the songs of which were written when the 28-year-old singer was on lockdown mode. During an appearance on SiriusXM's The Morning Mashup, Nick was asked about his writing process and how he differentiates between a solo song and a Jonas Brothers song.
Jonas noted how people found it surprising that he's able to dabble between both and that doing solo and group music "can coexist in such a seamless way." Nick confessed that that is the beauty of Jonas Brothers' new chapter which they embarked upon in 2019, going back to Happiness Begins and relaunching everything. Jonas stated that the brothers really meant it and weren't just blowing out smoke. Nick elaborated that the siblings think they can have the freedom to do what they want as individuals and then come back and do their group stuff and that it can be "bigger and better than ever."
Taking BTS, the popular South Korean boy group as the primary example, Nick shared, "That's a cool thing. I actually look at BTS, for instance, and I went to one of their shows at the Rose Bowl in California, a couple of years ago and it was cool to see them, kind of doing their individual songs and then coming back as the group and doing their songs together. And then, just that ability to have that freedom as a group is really rare and I think that's something that we love is that we can go and do these individual things or Joe with DNCE and come back and it only makes the group stronger."
ARMY is well aware of how BTS don't just feature individual songs in their albums but the members also release solo mixtapes. While RM dropped RM in 2015 and Mono in 2018, Suga released Agust D in 2016 and D-2 in 2020 while J-Hope dropped Hope World in 2018. As for the maknae line, V and Jungkook are gearing up for their solo mixtapes KTH1 and JJK1 while Jin and Jimin have released solo songs in the recent past like Abyss and Promise.
It's indeed interesting to delve into BTS' way of tackling individual mixtapes and group albums as one of the biggest reasons why many boybands or girl groups split is because one or more members want to venture into solo careers. Jonas Brothers is a primary example! Hence, Jonas Brothers 2.0 helped solve that problem by giving the members leeway to focus on solo projects just as equally as band projects.
