Megxile & Moperah: UK tabloids lash out at Meghan and Harry with brazen coverage after racism accusations
During the interview, Prince Harry admitted that a "large part" of why they took the decision to leave the UK was due to the British tabloids and its racist coverage.
As Oprah Winfrey promised that no topic was "off limits" during her chat with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the chat show host delivered and how. Meghan and Harry delved into almost every topic related to their exit from the royal family and it definitely was one of the most candid interviews of the couple. With no royal protocol to adhere to, Meghan and Harry spoke their mind and did not hesitate to call out and accuse the British press of racism.
Oprah even pointed out to the contrasting coverage which Meghan witnessed while doing the exact same things as Kate Middleton. Prince Harry even admitted that a "large part" of why they took the decision to leave the UK was due to the British press.
Meghan and Harry's explosive interview naturally did not go down well with the British press who were covering it in real time, much before the interview aired in the UK. From creating the juiciest headlines on its websites to using big, bold fonts with close up shots of the couple on the tabloids' front page, the UK tabloids lashed out at the couple with its brazen coverage.
A snapshot of one of the most famous tabloids, The Sun, termed the interview as 'MEGXILE' and 'MOPERAH' on its front page. As for the Daily Star, the tabloid dismissed the interview and headlined it "FIGHTS.. CAMERA.. ACTION!" while shockingly using a black band to cover Meghan and Harry's eyes.
Some other tabloids used Queen Elizabeth's pre-interview statement "Duty and Family Unite Us" to compare with Meghan and Harry's revelations. The Daily Express led with the Queen's statement with the strap line that read, "That’s public service for you, Harry and Meghan… NOT a self-serving TV chat with Oprah."
Take a look:

During the interview, Prince Harry recalled an incident during a ceremony he attended. He said, "One of the people at that dinner said to me, 'Please don't do this with the media. They will destroy your life.' This person is friends with a lot of the editors. And I said, 'So just to elaborate what do you mean by that?' Obviously I knew. He said, 'You need to understand that the U.K. is very bigoted.' And I stopped and I said, 'The U.K.'s not bigoted -- the U.K. press is bigoted, specifically the tabloids. Is that what you mean?' And he goes, 'No, the U.K.'s bigoted.' And I said, 'I completely disagree.' But unfortunately if the source of information is inherently corrupt or racist or biased, then that filters out to the rest of society."
