For the unversed, the couple started the renovation earlier this year and will soon move in the same with their baby Archie. The overall renovation costs have been paid through the Queen’s annual Sovereign Grant, Buckingham Palace and the same is around USD 3 million. A source told People magazine, “All fixtures and fittings were paid for by their Royal Highnesses. Curtains, furnishings — all that would be paid separately, paid privately.”
The source added, “If a member of the royal family says, ‘We want a better kitchen than you’re prepared to provide with public money,’ then that would fall to them privately and they would have to meet the cost. If they want that higher specification, they have to pay the extra.”
There were many reports on how there will be a yoga studio as well, but apparently, the same is not there. Speaking of the changes done in the 1800s cottage, a huge proportion of the ceiling beams and floor was defective, so they have been apparently replaced. Also, the heating and electric systems were outdated and inefficient and the same has been replaced and rewired.
Overall, the renovation work took around six months, and now, Harry and Meghan have a cozy and private home to raise their newborn kid. The construction costs USD 3 million and the same is also a part of USD 55 million which is being spent by the Queen in order to restore the royal palaces.
