Little Mermaid: Harry Styles as Prince Eric? Former One Direction singer in talks to play the Disney prince
Weeks after it was announced that Halle Bailey will be headlining Little Mermaid, reports suggest that Harry Styles could join the cast of the Disney live-action movie. The former One Direction singer could join the movie to essay the role of Prince Erik.
We've seen him sing with his band, One Direction. We've been blown away with his act in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. And now, it seems like Harry Styles could blend them both for Little Mermaid. A few days ago, it was announced that Disney has found its Little Mermaid in Halle Bailey. The singer was roped in to dive into the deep seas and bring Ariel to life. Now, the Mouse House is hunting for its Prince Eric. It is reported that the former 1D crooner Harry Styles could portray the role of Prince Eric in the Little Mermaid live-action movie.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Rob Marshall is eyeing Styles to play the blue-eyed prince for his Disney directorial movie. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. For the unversed, Eric plays the human who Ariel falls in love with. The Disney love-birds cross paths when Ariel saves the prince from drowning. Ariel seeks out to become a human and have her happily ever after with Eric. She agrees to exchange her voice for legs. Eric is the crucial character in the final battle between Ariel and Ursula.
While it would be interesting to see Styles join the cast, it is to be noted that the animated prince did not have a singing role. Rob might bend the rules and adapt Styles for the movie. But then again, it is still at a speculative stage right now. Meanwhile, Rob is still in talks with other A-listers for the casting. The filmmaker is in talks with Melissa McCarthy for the role of Ursula. Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also in talks to join the movie.
