There is no stopping Kim Kardashian! The reality star's recently launched products have faced severe backlash from netizens but it looks like none of this has stopped Kim from going ahead with her products. The latest launch has nothing to do with skin and beauty, but clothing. The reality television star launched a line of shapewear for women, that she is calling Kimono. While Kim is celebrating her launch, the traditional piece of clothing seems to have offended the Japanese as Kim's line received severe backlash on social media.
Irrespective, Kim is standing by her decision. In a statement to the New York Times, the KKW Beauty founder is addressing the accusations that she is culturally appropriating the term Kimono. In her statement, she shares, "I made the decision to name my company Kimono, not to disassociate the word from its Japanese roots but as a nod to the beauty and detail that goes into a garment. I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture," the 38-year-old explained.
She added, "My solutionwear brand is built with inclusivity and diversity at its core and I'm incredibly proud of what's to come." Kim also insisted that she does not intend to "design or release any garments that would in any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment."
Kim's Kimono line is expected to release in July and it includes bras, bodysuits, briefs and shorts. What are your thoughts on this? Comment below and let us know.
