John Mayer trolls Taylor Swift over Lover lyrics & Swifties SLAM Shawn Mendes; Here's WHY
John Mayer hosted Shawn Mendes on his Current Mood Instagram Live talk show where Taylor Swift's Lover came up. Mayer, who is also Taylor's ex, ended up poking fun at a line from the song and Swifties ended up calling out Mendes.
There is no denying that Taylor Swift gave fans one of the perfect Christmas songs of all-time. The heart-melting lyrics, which featured references to her relationship with Joe Alwyn, got Swifties grooving from the moment it released. If the OG version wasn't enough, Taylor doubled up the song into a duet with Shawn Mendes. Changing a few lyrics here and there, Taylor and Shawn gave us the love ballet of the season. However, John Mayer pointed out a few lines in the song and trolled Taylor with it.
The Your Body Is A Wonderland singer, who is also Taylor's ex, hung out with Shawn over the weekend and hosted his Current Mood Instagram Live talk show. The duo discussed Lover and Mayer went on to confess he "loves" the song. However, he admitted he gets “a little chuckle” out when he listens to the line: We can leave the Christmas lights up till January. The singer pointed out that anyone who puts up the Christmas lights ends up leaving it up until January. Mayer couldn't stop himself from chuckling a little. " “You’re insane. Everyone keeps their Christmas lights up until January. And I go, ‘Can you really?' Because normally I take my Christmas lights down on December 29,’” he says.
Mayer wasn't the only one laughing, Mendes was seen cracking up a little as well. Mayer was clearly not in the mood of stopping the jokes. He went on to sing his own version of the line. "We can keep the Christmas lights up till January. And then about January 5th, we’ll take the lights down. And then we’ll put ’em in a box and we’ll label that box Christmas Lights. Yeah, we’ll put ’em in the attic until next December," he sang. All this while, Shawn couldn't stop from breaking into laughs.
While it was all in a fun spirit, a few fans were not in the mood to laugh. Several Swifties took to social media to call out Shawn for laughing over the lyrics, especially after he crooned them in the new version of the song.
"i’m rly disappointed in shawn wtf," a fan reacted. "Is this Shawn showing his true colors or something because yikes," added another. "The fvcking AUDACITY of these two loose white bottoms coming for the the songwriter of our generation, been already knew john is trash but shawn? I mean i didn't trust him either but THIS?? DISGUSTING! men ain't SH!T" added another furious fan.
