Jamie Dornan's father and renowned doctor & professor Dr Jim Dornan passes away at 73 due to COVID 19

Actor Jamie Dornan's father, Dr Jim Dornan passed away at the age of 73 due to COVID 19.  The renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist had previously been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia. The news of his passing has come as a shock to those in the medical fraternity. Northern Ireland’s Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride also paid a tribute to Professor Jim Dornan.

Dr Jim Dornan was known to have chaired the Foetal Medicine at Queen's University Belfast and Health & Life Sciences at Ulster University. He was also the President of Northern Ireland pancreatic cancer charity. Known for having a distinguished medical career, Jim Dornan was also the head of the department with Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain. He was also a patron of Leukaemia and Lymphoma in North Ireland as reported by the Guardian. Tributes poured in for Dr Dornan as his colleagues from the university as well as the Leukaemia & Lymphoma Northern Ireland charity took to social media to express their condolences. Dr Dornan was also known for his philanthropic work and supported several medical charities. The moving tributes pouring in for him are reflective of his kind persona and the lives he touched. 

Jim Dornan is also known to have once shared the screen with his actor son, Jamie Dornan. The retired obstetrician and gynaecologist had appeared in two cameos on-screen. He was apart of the third series of ITV drama Marcella and also played the role of a policeman in The Fall, which starred Jamie as a serial killer, via Belfast Telegraph
