Disney seems to be on a roll. After rebooting the beloved Aladdin and The Lion King this year, Disney chief Bob Iger confirmed that a handful of franchises will be getting a "reimagination" of sorts. Basically a reboot, Iger confirmed that classics like Home Alone, Night at the Museum, and Diary of a Wimpy Kid will be rebooted on Disney's own streaming channel, Disney+, which will launch later this year. The idea behind these reboots is to make these films ‘for a new generation’.
However, no details on who will be playing Kevin McCallister or the Wet Bandits were divulged. In addition to the rebooted content, Disney+ will also be home to original content from both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises, Comicbook.com reported.
The news of Disney considering a Home Alone reboot was not exactly met with cheer by netizens who went into an overdrive after the news surfaced. Well, 90s kids are definitely not thrilled with the idea of remaking a classic which almost everyone can watch it again and again without complaining.
The “Home Alone” franchise is one of the most successful one. However, the original is considered to be the most favourite one among the four films. Home Alone premiered in 1990 and brought Kevin McCallister's misadventures to the big screen. The story revolves around Kevin and his family who forget to bring him on their Christmas vacation, leaving him to outwit burglars. The movie was a massive success resulting in four sequels in theaters and television.
