Dean Ambrose started off 2019 with a bang when it was revealed that the wrestler would not be renewing his contract with WWE. Eventually, Dean transformed back into his indies persona, Jon Moxley and joined AEW (All Elite Wrestling). Jon is also wrestling for NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling) while appearing at other indie events. Moxley's departure has been compared to CM Punk's infamous exit from WWE. Punk too had left WWE due to creative conflicts with Vince McMahon and the writers.

In an interview with ESPN, Punk was asked about his thoughts on Jon's departure and whether he has caught up on any of the comments made by Moxley. "No. I just know because it's in the zeitgeist he left and he did an interview on a podcast about how WWE stinks, as far as I know. ... I didn't listen to the interview. I've lived it, you know what I mean?," Punk shared. Furthermore, when Punk was asked if we would be involved with professional wrestling by the end of 2020, the wrestler revealed, "I doubt it."
