Adaptations of books can go either way; it could be a magnificent retelling of the words being brought to life or it can fall short of the magnanimity of the prose. The Goldfinch (An adaptation of Donna Tartt’s globally acclaimed best-selling novel, which won the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.) seems to be heading towards the former if the new trailer for the 2019 release is anything to go by. At the heart of the film is Ansel Elgort, who plays Theodore "Theo" Decker. Theo is 13 years of age when his mother gets killed in front of him because of a bombing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Because of the tragedy, Theo's life changes drastically and is a stirring odyssey of grief and guilt, reinvention and redemption, and even love. "Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that terrible day... a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch. The Goldfinch," as per the official synopsis by Warner Bros. The new trailer of The Goldfinch is out and is a heartbreaking montage of emotions as we see Theo from his childhood to a young man, facing the loss of his beloved mother.
