Golden Globes 2021: Sacha Baron Cohen pokes fun at Donald Trump, Rudy Giuliani while accepting his awards
With two Golden Globe wins, Sacha Baron Cohen got the opportunity to give a speech twice and actor made sure to take digs at Donald Trump and former mayor Rudy Giuliani.
This year's Golden Globes 2021 was an exciting affair as nominees joined from far and wide. The evening saw actors dress up in the comfort of their own homes as they geared up to attend the awards ceremony virtually. This year's winners are an exciting bunch and one of them is Sacha Baron Cohen who won not one, but two Golden Globe awards.
Sacha bagged one for best actor in a musical or comedy and another for best comedy or musical for his film Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. With two awards, Sacha got the opportunity to give a speech twice and actor made sure to take digs at Donald Trump and former mayor Rudy Giuliani.
While receiving the award for best actor, Sacha said, "Thank you to the all-white Hollywood Foreign Press. I’ve gotta say this movie couldn’t have been possible without my co-star, a fresh, new talent who came from nowhere and turned out to be a comedy genius. I’m talking, of course, about Rudy Giuliani. I mean, who can get more laughs out of one unzipping? Incredible. Our movie was just the beginning for him, Rudy went on to star in a string of comedy films. Hits like ‘Four Seasons Landscaping,’ ‘Hair Dye Another Day’ and the courtroom drama ‘A Very Public Fart.'"
Sacha mocked Rudy's public events in which he was caught off guard like the press conference where his hair dye began leaking or when he addressed a press conference during the US elections at a landscaping business' garage.
Further, poking fun at Trump's refusal to accept his election loss, Sacha in his second speech said, "Hold on, Donald Trump is contesting the result. He’s claiming that a lot of dead people voted, which is a very rude thing to say about the HFPA." The actor also thanked his film's cast and crew for risking their lives to shoot Borat during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sacha Baron Cohen created Golden Globes history for winning two awards for the same film character, 15 years apart. He was nominated for three Golden Globes this year for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm and The Trial of the Chicago 7.
