George RR Martin REVEALS Game of Thrones' fans outrage will not influence his book ending
In a recent interview, George R.R. Martin got candid about how he will not let Game of Thrones' fans reactions to season 8 affect his final two A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Read below to know more about what the author had to say on the same.
Game of Thrones Season 8 left a bad taste for many GOT fans as they were incredibly let down by the writing (showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss) of the final season. It was the arc developments of many characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, that led to negative criticism, directed at Dan and David. An online petition with 1.5 million reported signatures became major headlines as they demanded for Game of Thrones' final season to be rewritten. However, several cast members like Kit Harington, Sophie Turner and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau have taken D&D's side.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, George R.R. Martin got candid about how he will not let the reactions to GOT Season 8 affect his final two A Song of Ice and Fire novels. However, the writer has been tempted to on several occasions. Talking about the Internet, George gave an example about how before the web, Jon Snow's parentage would have shocked 99 out of 100 people. But now, when one figures it out, then they post it online for the other 99 people to see. Suddenly, the shocking twist is not so shocking anymore. And there is a temptation to change it, especially in his upcoming books.

But according to Martin, that temptation is wrong. "Because you’ve been planning for a certain ending and if you suddenly change direction just because somebody figured it out, or because they don’t like it, then it screws up the whole structure," George stated
"So no, I don’t read the fan sites. I want to write the book I’ve always intended to write all along. And when it comes out they can like it or they can not like it," Martin added.
