Game of Thrones was a series many considered as the best TV show of all time. However, the same fans changed their opinion after witnessing GOT Season 8, in April-May 2019. The loyal Game of Thrones fanbase was left gutted with the storyline arcs of many prominent characters like Daenerys Targaryen and Jaime Lannister and they were not at all happy with how the final season concluded. They were so disappointed that a petition was signed by the fans demanding to remake season 8. Over an astonishing 1.5 million signatures were registered.

In a recent interview with Leonard Maltin for his podcast, Maltin on Movies, author George R.R. Martin finally reacted to the massive backlash by GOT fans. "The Internet is toxic in a way that old fanzine culture and fandoms  — comics fans, science fiction fans — in those days, was not. There were disagreements. There were feuds, but nothing like the madness that you see on the internet," George stated. The backlash was indeed crazy as many Game of Thrones stars like Kit Harington and Sophie Turner too had to defend the choices their characters made in season 8.
