Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams confesses she was ashamed of her body while playing Arya Stark

One of the characters on Game of Thrones who was an instant favourite from the get-go and eventually became the dark horse towards the end of the series was Arya Stark, brought to life by Maisie Williams. The actress was barely 11 when she was cast as the rebellious Stark, who spent most of her life as a boy in Westeros, learning the tricks of the trade to avenge all the wrongs done to House Stark. But for Maisie, playing Arya was a tough time, especially with her growing body. In a recent fashion interview with Vogue, Williams spoke candidly about the time she felt ashamed of her body.

It was around season 2 or 3 of Game of Thrones when Maisie's body started to mature and she was in the process of becoming a woman, but for Arya, she had to disguise herself as a boy - who had short hair whilst covered in dirt and have her nose shaded to look broader. The actress ended up looking very manly. "And they’d also put this strap across my chest to flatten any growth that had started. And that just felt horrible for six months of the year, and I felt a bit ashamed for a while," the 22-year-old actress confessed to Vogue.

Now that Game of Thrones is finally over, Williams has a new lease on life, when it comes to her fashion sense which has surely become more feminine, judging by her recent gorgeous red carpet looks. "So with this new phase of my style, it is nice to look more feminine and have a real waistline and embrace the body that I have," Maisie gushed.
