The Battle of Winterfell has come and gone and Game of Thrones fans are still coping with the magnanimous episode and that shocker of an ending. Just when you thought all hope was last, Arya Stark proved to be the ultimate badass and took out The Night King. While many rejoiced as their favourite character won the great war, many were expecting it to be Jon Snow, including Kit Harington himself. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor spoke about the surprising turn of events and how he gradually welcomed the twist.

Kit shared, "I was surprised, I thought it was gonna be me! But I like it. It gives Arya’s training a purpose to have an end goal. It’s much better how she does it the way she does it. I think it will frustrate some in the audience that Jon’s hunting the Night King and you’re expecting this epic fight and it never happens — that’s kind of Thrones. But it’s the right thing for the characters. There’s also something about it not being the person you expect. The young lady sticks it to the man."

Even Maisie Williams initially felt that Jon should have killed The Night King. However, when she shot the sequence with Melisandre (Carice van Houten), where The Red Woman recalls the conversation about the season 3 prophesy on Arya - “Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes… eyes you’ll shut forever," the actress embraced the ending.

Good morning, Happy Arya Day. #NotToday

Maisie recalled, "It all comes down to this one very moment. It’s also unexpected and that’s what this show does. So then I was like, 'F—k you Jon, I get it.'"
