Game of Thrones: Jaime and Brienne fans get some closure thanks to Nikolaj Coster Waldau
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau confirms a major Braime (Jaime Lannister and Ser Brienne of Tarth) theory from Game of Thrones Season 8. Read below to know more about the theory and what Nikolaj had to say about the same.
Game of Thrones Season 8 received a polarising reaction from die-hard fans who waited for more than two years to know how their favourite show would reach its end. One character who they felt did not deserve his fate was Jaime Lannister. For seasons, Jaime transformed from the most hated to one of the favourites because of his spectacular character arc progression. At the end of season 7, Jaime leaves the clutches of his sister and love Cersei Lannister to fight for the living, in North.
However, in season 8, when we think Ser Brienne of Tarth has finally changed the Kingslayer, he returns back to King's Landing and dies with Cersei. The reason he gives Brienne is that he is as hateful as his monstrous sister. Many were left aghast with Jaime's decision as well as Brienne breaking down. However, a recent theory by news.com.au seems to have got the actual meaning behind Jaime's decision, right! At least that is how actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau feels about it. "Jaime doesn’t just make up that list of terrible things he’s done in Cersei’s name. His addiction to her really has driven him to perform horrific deeds. And because of that, he believes he is just as bad as his sister. He doesn’t think he deserves a better life with Brienne. He only deserves Cersei," the theory suggests.

On the other hand, Brienne knows that Jaime is a decent and honourable man. She tries to convince him and fails, which is why it's heartbreaking for her. Ser Brienne realises that Jaime has a death wish as he heads to King's Landing and that "he will die wrongly believing he is a monster."
This theory makes sense given Brienne's last sequence where she is seen completing Jaime’s entry in the White Book, with all his honourable moments. "She ensures the world will remember Jaime not just as the Kingslayer, but as the good man she knew," the theory concludes.
The same theory was tweeted by Nikolaj as he simply gave his nod of approval by writing, "Game of Thrones: Brienne and Jaime scene from final season misunderstood. Yep, that’s it. N."
