Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie on self submitting for Emmys: I would like to be in charge of my destiny
Gwendoline Christie, who we know as Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones, received major props for self-submitting herself for the Supporting Actress category at Emmys 2019. The actress revealed why she self-submitted at Emmys 2019 in a recent interview.
Game of Thrones created history by garnering a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations for their final season. When it comes to the acting categories, ten series regulars were bestowed with nominations. Kit Harington and Emilia Clarke are up for the Leading Actor and Actress in a Drama Series categories while the Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series categories were stacked up and included Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Alfie Allen, Lena Headey, Gwendoline Christie, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. Carice van Houten scored a nomination in the Guest Actress in a Drama Series category as well.
However, Gwendoline, Alfie and Carice, self-submitted their names to be considered for nominations in contrast to the other names, who were submitted by HBO. Luckily, for the trio, they were able to score nominations, which rarely happens! In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Gwendoline revealed why she self-submitted at Emmys 2019. "It’s something I find hard to do, like everyone else, but I would like to be in charge of my own destiny. And I would like to endeavor to give myself opportunities. Particularly when working very hard on something very special and you’ve pushed yourself beyond your limits," Christie confessed.

Talking about how actors submit themselves all the time, Gwendoline never imagined in her wildest dreams that she would actually earn a nomination and doesn't feel anyone else did either. "But I just had to do it for me. And I had to do it as a testament to the character and what I feel she (Brienne of Tarth) represents," Christie stated.
