Game of Thrones creators David Benioff & DB Weiss quit Star Wars trilogy; DEETS INSIDE
Back in 2018, it was announced that Game of Thrones creators David Benioff & D.B. Weiss were all set to write and produce a Star Wars trilogy. However, in recent developments, D&D has made the decision to quit the trilogy. Read below to know why.
Game of Thrones reached its final stage in 2019 when the final season aired between April-May 2019. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss took charge of writing and directing the final episode which finally answered the question - who wins the Iron Throne? However, GoT fans were heavily disappointed by season 8 as it didn't meet up to their expectations. Recently, when news broke out again that D&D was attached to the next Star Wars trilogy being planned by Lucasfilm and Disney, fans were anything but happy!
David and Dan were all set to write and produce a Star Wars trilogy, the first of which was slated to release on December 16, 2022. However, according to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, D&D have made the decision to step away from the trilogy. A statement was shared with THR by Benioff and Weiss which reads as, "We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything,"
"But there are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our other projects. So we are regretfully stepping away," they added.
Furthermore, Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President shared that given how David and Dan are "incredible storytellers", they hope to include them in the journey forward. She wishes that they will be able to step away from their busy schedules to focus on Star Wars.
