Free Guy: Ryan Reynolds channels Superman in the FIRST LOOK; Taika Waititi plays a crucial role
Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds will be seen in Free Guy, directed by Shawn Levy. The makers have dropped the first look of the movie and Reynolds is back to being a superhero, of sorts.
From being the Deadpool to turning into Pikachu in Detective Pikachu, Ryan Reynolds now becomes a background character trapped inside a video game in Free Guy. While MCU fans await details about Marvel Studios' plans for Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds dropped the poster of Free Guy. The Deadpool actor made his way to the New York Comic-Con this week to discuss the action-comedy film helmed by Shawn Levy and along with the appearance came the first look of Reynolds from the movie.
The poster feels like a hilarious crossover between Superman and The Office. Reynolds is seen channeling the DC superhero as he rips his shirt, like Clark Kent. While Kent had his Superman costume underneath, Reynolds had another blue crisp shirt underneath with the tag "Free" pinned to it. The poster features a caption, "The world needed a hero they got a guy."
Attending the NYCC, the makers revealed Reynolds plays a bank teller stuck in a video game. He works in a bank that constantly is robbed. His character eventually realises he's not real but is a character stuck in a violent video game called Free City which is going to be soon discontinued. Guy is tasked to save the (gaming) world.

"Ryan and I have talked about Free Guy as a superhero origin story without the cape and tights and the IP. If you were living in a video game and could master the system, your powers would be limitless," director Levy informed attendees, CNET reports. Apart from Reynolds, Free Guy features Taika Waititi, Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Channing Tatum. Thor: Love and Thunder director Waititi plays the baddie in this flick. He plays the video game publisher. For the unversed, Reynolds and Waititi reunite after Green Lantern. The makers also released a video poking fun at the DC movie.
Apart from the poster, five-minute footage and an early cut of a trailer were shown at the Comic-Con. Fans could expect a trailer to drop soon. Free Guy is slated to release in the July 3, 2020. What did you think of the poster? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
