Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock is the kind of actor who was destined to play a superhero or antihero! Since the early 2000s, a film on Shazam was in the works with Dwayne essaying the role of Billy Batson's arch-nemesis, Black Adam. However, the project fell through and eventually we did get Shazam! in 2019, with Zachary Levi as the titular character. While Johnson could have made an appearance as the villain in the 2019 film, it was decided that Black Adam deserved its own standalone movie.

However, there were no updates on when the Black Adam movie would start shooting. Now, we have a major update from The Rock himself, who took to his Twitter page to make DCEU (DC Extended Universe) fans extremely happy. The former WWE wrestler reacted to a fan who sculpted Dwayne as Black Adam. "Very cool man, thank you. Amazing detail. This project has been with me for over 10yrs. Production begins this July. Appreciate the support," Johnson tweeted in response.

Back in April 2019, The Rock, who also executive produced Shazam!, had thanked fans for their support in terms of box-office numbers as the DCEU film collected a staggering $362.7 million worldwide.

"For those who know the comic books and who know the mythology of Shazam know that Shazam is connected to Black Adam. Black Adam is an antihero or villain, who I can not wait to play. I’ve been developing this, and it’s been with me in my DNA, for over ten years now. We should start shooting that in about a year. I’m very excited about that. I can’t wait to play Black Adam because they’re all getting their asses kicked when I play Black Adam. That day of reckoning is coming for everyone," Dwayne had shared back then.

Black Adam will be helmed by Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra.
