Bye Bye 2020: 10 songs from Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Harry Styles & more that saved the year

Just weeks shy of 2021’s commencement, and let’s just say it: The past year wasn’t the best. While most of the world spent their time indoors, hiding away from economic collapse, a global pandemic and much more, many of us did find solace in our homes again, thanks to music. It was the isolated spaces that made way for the music that made us feel a little less lonely and carried us through the year’s many highs and lows. Living rooms became dance floors; ceiling lights functioned as disco balls; bedrooms became our therapy rooms, holding our tears and quiet contemplations. Even amidst a pandemic, many music icons reminded us that we can still feel connected, even in isolation. Scroll down to see our curation of the top ten songs that saved 2020.

Cardigan:

Taylor Swift’s surprise quarantine drop, Cardigan in the album Folklore, felt like a refreshing walk through the woods. The album gave space to Taylor Swift’s signature storytelling style mixed with a soothing country touch.

Holy:

Justin Bieber’s gospel-tinged love song translates into the most romantic song of the season. The song not only is a peaceful melody but also took you on a story-like experience. Chance the Rapper, Ryan Destiny and Wilmer Valderrama elevate the song's audio and video with a convincing back story.

Adore You:

Harry Styles’ Adore You promises to transport you into a sunny cheerful day, much like Watermelon Sugar by the former 1D singer. Upbeat, preppy and light, it is the perfect feel-good anthem we needed in the confines of our homes.

Blinding Lights:

This song by The Weeknd may not have been nominated for a Grammy but that that hasn't decreased ita allure. Moody, sultry, and highly comforting, this song will make you want to crank up the volume and zone out.

WAP:

At the peak of coronavirus lockdown, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion presented this light-hearted, ultra sexual jam that distracted the world with its NSFW visuals and lyrics. Some loved it while some hated it, but there was no denying that WAP presented itself as the greatest distraction from difficult times.

Savage:

Megan Thee Stallion and Beyonce joined forces and the results were just as fabulous as expected. The Bey x Meg collaboration truly set the summer on fire.

Dynamite:

The bulletproof Bangtan Boys made history with their first English song, and what a welcome it received from the world! BTS’ Dynamite was enough to get the gloomiest soul out of bed and dancing.

Rain on Me:

Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande joined forces and let the world experinece a fantastical world and the full power of two divas playing to their strengths.
