Beyoncé & Jay Z’s daughter Blue Ivy WINS Songwriter’s Award for a song in The Lion King: The Gift
Blue Ivy Carter is already an award-winning songwriter. The seven-year-old bagged her first award at the 2019 Soul Train Awards.
What were you doing when you were 7? We were busy competing at school competitions. Well, seven-year-old Blue Ivy Carter is busy winning international awards. Beyoncé & Jay-Z's seven-year-old daughter followed her parents' footsteps when she penned a song with her mother. The duo collaborated on the hit song Brown Skin Girl. The song featured on The Lion King: The Gift playlist released in July. Blue Ivy was honoured with the Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award at the 2019 Soul Train Awards.
For the unversed, the category honours women of colour and the win is Blue Ivy’s first songwriting credit. Not only has Blue Ivy has sat down to contribute to the song but she has also sung in the song. Associated Press reports that Blue Ivy shares the award with Beyonce and Jay-Z. The trio beat five other nominees.
The nominees included Hard Place (written by H.E.R., David Harris, Sam Ashworth & Ruby Amanfu), Juice (Theron Thomas, Sam Sumser, Sean Small, Eric Frederic & Melissa Jefferson (Lizzo)), Make It Better (Brandon Anderson, William Smokey Robinson, Alaina Chenevert, Miguel Atwood Ferguson, Daniel Manman Farid Nassar (Anderson .Paak feat. Smokey Robinson)), No Guidance (Christopher Brown, Aubrey Graham, Anderson Hernandez, Josha Lewis, Michee Lebrun, Nija Charles, Teddy Walton, Noah Shebib & Tyler Bryant (Chris Brown feat. Drake)) and Talk (Howard Lawrence, Guy Lawrence & Khalid Robinson (Khalid).
Following the announcement of her win, fans took to Twitter to congratulate the award-winning writer. "Blue Ivy out here winning awards is just a regular day in the Carter household, she's an award-winning, hot-100 charting, hitmaking freestyle rapper, songwriter, vocalist, and a choreographer only at the age of 7.. wheeew A LEGEND A ICON QUEEN," a fan wrote. "Legend Blue Ivy already racking up awards," added another.
