Supermodel Bella Hadid got to see the not so glamorous side of social media on Tuesday as she faced severe backlash and #BellaHadidIsRacist began trending on Twitter. Turns out, the supermodel's picture on her Instagram story at an airport created a stir on social media as netizens took offense to the photo. In the picture, the 22-year-old's shoe was up against an airport window. In the background are airplanes from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

From the angle of the photo, some felt it looked like she was kicking the flags that are painted on the planes' tails. The picture was criticised by many netizens from the Middle East and Bella Hadid faced flak for it. Realising the error, the supermodel took to Twitter and Instagram apologizing for her post, which she described as a mistake.

Part of her apology read, "I would never want my posts or platform to be used for hate against anyone, especially those of my own beautiful & powerful heritage." Bella added, "I love and care so much about the Muslim and Arab side of my family as well as my brothers and sisters throughout the world."

She shared her apology in Arabic as well and concluded by sending “a sincere apology to those who ever thought I would put blame on them, especially to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.” In another tweet, the supermodel said, "this was an honest mistake on an early morning... never, ever would I intentionally try to offend anyone like that. I am so sorry."
