Avengers: Endgame was a heartbreaking roller-coaster ride of emotions which was filled with some unforgettable moments. *SPOILERS ALERT* Whether it be Iron Man or Natasha Romanoff's untimely deaths or even Captain America holding Thor's Mjolnir, these sequences will be etched in the brains of all MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) fans for the longest time. There was a paticular moment, involving a cameo by director Joe Russo, that became a talking point, as he played the first openly gay character in the world of MCU.

The scene took place five years after Thanos' snap, which wiped out half the universe. We are shown Steve Rogers having a grief counseling meeting with Joe playing an 'unnamed' grieving man, who is devastated by the loss of his love and is back in the dating scene. Many fans were left gutted with the short sequence and how the moment felt like more of an afterthought. Marvel Studios' President Kevin Feige spoke to io9 about the fans' disappointment and stated that Joe's character was never meant to be the first focused character. It was more of a matter of fact, life and truth.

The OG’s...

Kevin liked that Steve didn't blink an eye to the fact. It was the truth of heartbreak after loss and not meant to be looked at as MCU's first LGBT hero. "I guess it’s the first reference so it does, of course, get a lot of attention. We haven’t been shy about saying that that’s coming and that there are much more prominent LGBT heroes in the future," Feige added.
