Anthony Russo: One of the great experiences of Avengers: Endgame was not thinking about the future at all
Anthony and Joe Russo aka The Russo Brothers were creatively liberated to not have to think about the future while directing Avengers: Endgame. They also revealed that it was "shocking and thrilling" to witness Spider-Man: Far From Home.
Avengers: Endgame marks the swan song for Phase 3 of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as well as the OG6 Avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye). For years, the Russo Brothers have worked around the storyline to reach Avengers: Endgame and their efforts are bearing fruitful results. The movie is re-released yet again, with six minutes of bonus footage, including a deleted scene with The Hulk as well as a post-credits scene from Spider-Man: Far From Home. The Tom Holland starrer will look into the fallout of Avengers: Endgame and how Peter Parker aka Spider-Man is coping with the loss of his mentor, Tony Stark aka Iron Man.
In an interview with FOX 5 DC, Joe and Anthony Russo were asked about watching Spider-Man: Far From Home after bringing things to an end with their film, Avengers: Endgame. The director duo was "shocked and thrilled" to witness Spider-Man: Far From Home. Talking further, Anthony shared, "One of the great experiences of Avengers: Endgame for Joe and I, which is unlike our experiences on our previous three Marvel movies, we were not thinking about the future at all."
Anthony added that their job in Avengers: Endgame was to bring things to a close and have its climax in the "most exciting, satisfying way." It was "creatively liberating," for them to not have to think forward for the very first time. They didn't have to worry about where this could probably go or what are they going to do next. Instead, it was more about how they were going to ending things.
"And then all of a sudden, to watch it move forward was exciting, and also surprising, and there were certain things about it — you inevitably can’t avoid sort of projecting into the future. Some of that was there, but certainly I was much more surprised than seeing what I expected," Russo concluded.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Far From Home is slated to release on July 4, 2019.
