A leading lady takes stand & refuses endorsement

A popular health beverage, quite the fad for weight loss (allegedly, not proven), has recently switched brand ambassadors. Initially, this beverage was endorsed by the current box office female favorite- who has starred in a 500 crore plus mega flick & has delivered an appreciated super hit on her slender solo shoulders. Now, a pretty young star from the Gen Y lot, who also has two 100 crore hits under her belt, has begun to endorse it.

However, the commercial shot with the Gen Y beauty has received flak across social media for poking fun at overweight people & for linking weight loss to this hot beverage. In fact, despite the popular cricket season, the brand has steered clear of putting it out on TV channels wary of further backlash.

Turns out the box office favourite leading lady, had refused to endorse the said brand for a second year after she objected to it’s creatives. She questioned drawing a direct link between weight loss & the beverage’s benefits. And she also questioned why should fat people be caricatured to make a beverage more popular. She finds products that promote a certain (skinny) body type detrimental influences (surprise, surprise!)

When the brand refused to budge from the creative and said they would prefer to replace her, she accepted their decision without question.

It isn’t common for Bollywood leading ladies (or men) to turn down lucrative investments. That this leading lady, who’s proven her money’s worth at the theatres this month too, has done the right thing by refusing to endorse something that goes against her own beliefs is commendable.
