Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni reportedly to retire post ICC World Cup 2019 tournament? Read on
Former Indian skipper and current wicket-keeper and batsman MS Dhoni who led the team to the 2011 World Cup triumph allegedly might retire from international cricket post World Cup.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni who led India to many triumphs and glories reportedly might play his last international match in the on-going World Cup. There are several speculations that the Men in Blue’s last match in the tournament will also be MS Dhoni’s last game.
A senior BCCI official told PTI, “You never know with MS Dhoni. But it is unlikely that he will continue to play for India after this World Cup. But since his decisions to quit captaincy from the three formats have been taken so suddenly, it is very difficult to predict at the moment."
MS Dhoni was criticised severely by fans and experts for his lack of positive intent in the past two matches of the Indian cricket team in the on-going World Cup tournament. He was criticised for his slow run rate in the beginning of his innings. However, this 37-year-old Indian cricketer has played a vital role in the team’s exceptional transformation in international cricket. His contribution to the team as a player and as the skipper is extraordinary and it will always be unmatchable.
A former Indian cricketer also said that the team management had to take a call in 2017 after the Champions Trophy where they decided that they will invest two more years in MS Dhoni till the 2019 World Cup. "No one can ask him to retire but obviously he has got the drift that post World Cup, things won't be the same," he added.
