Fans edit third umpire's Wikipedia page after he controversially gives Rohit Sharma out in World Cup 2019
Rohit Sharma was controversially given out after it was uncertain if the ball hit pad or bat. The umpire Michael Gough's Wikipedia page was edited from angry fans
After Team India won the toss and opted to bat against West Indies, the side's openers got off to a decent start. Rohit Sharma, in particular, looked good but just when it seemed like he will get a big knock, he was out rather controversially.
On the final ball of the sixth over from Kemar Roach, Sharma was outfoxed as the ball brushed something along the way before it carried to the wicket-keeper Shai Hope.
But did it hit the bat or the pad?
The third umpire, after checking the front foot, asked for the ultra-edge. From the replays, there was a huge gap between bat and pad, however, the ball did hit something as there was a huge spike on the ultra edge, But, there was confusion if it was bat first or pad first as replays were inconclusive.
The third umpire, Michael Gough, felt that the ball hit the bat first and signalled it out. Usually, if there is a doubt, the decisions go in favour of the batsman, but not this time. The player, along with the commentators were shocked, and so were the fans, who took to Wikipedia to change Gough's bio.
