EXCLUSIVE: Vipul Shah on Tanushree Dutta & Nana Patekar row: Cops must investigate, guilty shouldn't be spared
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Namaste England director Vipul Shah said that he doesn't want to get into gossipmongering in Tanushree Dutta and Nana Patekar's case. The director wants the police to investigate the matter and bring the truth out.
In an interview with an entertainment channel, Tanushree Dutta recalled the incident that happened on the sets of Horn Ok Pleassss in 2008. She told the reporters that Nana Patekar along with choreographer Ganesh Acharya harassed her on the sets when she refused to do an intimate dance with him. The actress also shared that later, Nana called some goons who attacked her vanity van on the sets while she was sitting inside. 10 years ago, Tanushree spoke about this incident to the media, but no one supported her. However, now she is getting support from a lot of people including some Bollywood celebs who stood up for her.
Many celebs have said that such predators from the film industry must be called out. They said that Tanushree's voice must be heard and applauded her for coming out in the open and sharing her story. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Pinkvilla, we asked Namaste England director Vipul Shah what is his opinion on the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar row. When the director was asked, shouldn't the film industry come out and speak about such incidents and call out the sexual predators, he said, "Yes, the predator should be called out. That is a very clear thing. Anybody who is creating a situation for a girl which is not comfortable should be punished."
Vipul added, "My only point in this particular matter is I don't know the truth. So I want a thorough investigation to happen. I don't think that this should be let go. This must be investigated and once you are able to decide what is the truth, then everybody should react. Right now we are into massive gossipmongering. And I think that should be avoided because we are talking about a woman's respect. You are also talking about a man's respect. Till you don't establish what actually happened, to just go out and comment, I feel it's not right. I think the truth must be found out and cops must get into it. They must take suo moto action; investigate the matter, bring the truth out. Then the guilty should not be spared. That's my point of view. I don't like to get into gossipmongering."
Tanushree Dutta has filed a molestation case against Nana Patekar and Ganesh Acharya to the Mumbai Police. Nana and Ganesh will be doing a press conference on Monday.
