EXCLUSIVE: Thugs of Hindostan: Aamir Khan’s film to hit a half century on Day 1? Read to know more

Box Office Numbers are a big parameter to judge a movie’s success rate these days. Friday - every movie has to pass this litmus test. These days small budget films are getting miraculous numbers like Stree or Badhaai Ho. Cinema trends are changing and well, the audience is accepting with wide arms. Now, Aamir Khan is coming with a movie and we all know that he is one man who wants to experiment by venturing in every possible category of cinema he can into. Thugs of Hindostan is going to hit the screens on November 8 and fans can’t keep calm. 

Those who have seen the trailer know the scale of this movie - VFX and costumes - everything is just grand. Big names like Amitabh Bachchan and Katrina Kaif are a part of this YRF magnum opus. In the morning, we told you that our sources told the film’s budget is on a high end side so box office numbers have to be high too. So, we did a full trade expedition here. We have decoded every aspect from the opening day predictions to the Diwali factor that can benefit the film. We got in touch with Girish Johar (Film and Trade Analyst) for the same. 

The audience is excited to watch Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan together in a movie. Also, the Dangal star Fatima Sana Shaikh is also a part of this magnificient film. Katrina Kaif is all set to sizzle the screen with her amazing moves. So, how will the box office performance of the film will be on the first day? Well, it's quite big. Check out:

Opening Day Prediction 

Well, let us tell you that TOH might be one of the highest openers of Bollywood. Girish told us, “Thugs of Hindostan is one of the biggest films both in terms of costings & scale in Hindi Cinema so far. Biggest names like Amitabh Bachchan Sir, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and YRF have come together for this BIG DIWALI BONANZA. It is going to be also be one of the widest release ever for a Hindi film on planet earth. Globally screens in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and in IMAX are being locked as we speak. New overseas markets are being tapped so a huge hurricane is expected on its release.” 

He went on to add, “They are targeting the widest release across all the regions in the country. They are tapping new markets. In India, they are coming right after Diwali which is the biggest Box Office day for India. A film opening on the day, big names and high end ticket prices - so I am sure unheard numbers are going to come out. I am expecting it will be the first film to cross the half century in terms of nett box office. I am still waiting to know whether the film is releasing in the US on 8th or not but Dubai I am sure it will release on Thursday.”

Popularity of the big names

TOH has has an ensemble cast that includes big Bollywood names - Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh.  So we can count that factor too. Popularity of stars does help in minting number. On this, Girish told us, “These are big names and yes of course people know Aamir comes after a gap with good movies. It seems like his films are under-promoted or there is lack of awareness, but eventually audience does turn up. The popularity of the stars does in a way affect the box office.” 

What about the comparison with Pirates Of The Caribbean? 

As soon as netizens got to see the first look of the movie, comparisons were being drawn with Johnny Depp’s Pirates Of The Caribbean. Stars refuted all such reports. When we asked Girish about these comparisons, he gave us a positive aspect to it. “The good part is that the mass audience for which the Diwali opens up the big window - small towns and single screens. They don't know what is Pirates Of The Caribbean. For them, it's an Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bahchan film. If the film has that sentiment that they are looking forward for a fun Diwali entertainer, it will going to do berserk. We all know small budget films like Stree, Badhaai Ho or AndhaDhun are going crazy numbers. TOH is a big film and has a connect. Someone was telling me it was close to Kranti and Kranti was a big blockbuster,” he said. 

Advance Booking does half the job! 

For such a huge project, advance booking windows will open on November 3. This is also one of the business aspects of the cinema. There is craze for the film and numbers are going to be highly, no doubt here. On this, Johar told us, “They will open the advance booking on November 3. The buzz is really high. Once the advance booking opens online, it's surely going to big and there's no two ways about it.”

Satellite Rights - one more parameter! 

Girish, explaining his stance, told us, “I am pretty much sure the business of the movie has been recovered. Having said that box office numbers are required. Box office in India or globally is a key indicator of a film's success. It could be around Rs 70 crore for Satellite right. Then, it can be linked to the box office parameter.” 

LAST but not the least - DIWALI tadka 

Diwali is a huge window for any film. But would it benefit Aamir’s TOH or not? Girish said, “Diwali is one of the biggest windows for Indian box office market. For a scale of this mammoth production, you need long weekends and holidays so that your costing can match up to your revenues. It's coming SOLO which is a rarity. But coming solo on Diwali is a big thing and you can understand how much credit this film has.”
