Rajkummar Rao's Newton has finally hit the theatres and has been receiving positive reviews for the brilliant act put up by the National Award-winning actor. The film revolves around a government clerk who tries to conduct fair voting on an election day amid the fear of guerrilla attacks and apathy of security forces.

Just now, the reports came in that film has been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars. We got in touch with Rajkummar who was super excited about the reaction the audience has been giving to his film. While confirming the report, he told us, "It's India's official entry to the Oscars. It's true. I am elated and super thrilled that we made this film with so much love and passion. I am so glad that people are appreciating that effort and are recognizing the sincerity of a non-theatre film."

A while back, we met the actor for an interview. We asked him about his character in Newton, to which he told us, "I think we have not seen a character like Newton for a very long time. Somebody who is so idealistic and wants to bring in a change and the way it is being told is different. It is so funny and quirky and humorous and at the same time, it is a black comedy. So, I thought it talks about something very important but in a very light way which is very intriguing."

Talking about his expectations from the film, he said, "Expectations are always the same that more and more people come and watch the film but I don't want to only think of that because that is something which is beyond my control. I can't really control that. I can only control what we do with my films, the wave is changing and I am hopeful that the film will be watched by a lot of people."
