EXCLUSIVE - Bhoomi's producer Sandeep Singh: Why will Sanjay Dutt do a film which will be getting an 'A' certificate?
Bhoomi's producer rubbishes the reports of the film getting 13 cuts.
Sanjay Dutt's Bhoomi is a revenge story directed by Omung Kumar which has the crucial subject of a father avenging his daughter's (Aditi Rao Hydari) rape. The film is set to hit the screens next week and as per a leading daily, the CBFC demanded 13 cuts from the film.
We got in touch with the producer of Bhoomi, Sandeep Singh to know about it. When quizzed about the same, he stated, "We don't know whether the film has got 13 cuts or two cuts or five cuts. Suddenly even I read the report, I got to know this through reports in media and not from the Censor Board."
He added, "One should understand that we should respect the law, government policies and the Censor Board. It's not about Bhoomi, everyone should follow Censor Board guidelines. They don't take decisions keeping personal relationships in mind, they are professionals who are talking about pan-India. They are given responsibilities which they have to maintain."
He also said, "Plus Omung and I have made films like Sarbjit, Mary Kom and now Bhoomi, so we keep the Censor and the audience in our mind and have never crossed our line. Because of the story, they have asked us for a few cuts that's all, which has not impacted our film and nor any of our characters. They asked us and we obeyed it, with respect. By the grace of the God, by the end of the day, we will get our Censor certificate."
When Sandeep was asked about the new CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, he said, "Whether Prasoon Joshi comes or Omung Kumar sits on that same chair, I think one should follow the rules as a pride for the filmmakers. And the filmmaker should respect the decisions and we should not take anyone for granted."
He went on to say, "That's the assumption by any of the producer and the director, that whether Prasoon Joshi or Pahlaj Nihalani Sir that they will not cut the film and will be nice to us. They should be grateful to them and to the responsibilities given to them by the government and trust them with it."
Bhoomi is a comeback vehicle for Sanjay Dutt and Sandeep said that the actor will not do an adult film on his comeback. Sandeep said, "First of all, it's a family film and Sanjay Dutt's comeback film. Why will he do a film which will be getting an 'A' certificate? It's not a Hate Story or a Great Grand Masti, which have double meaning dialogues."
He added, "Everybody has witnessed the trailer and appreciated it and it's a family action drama film which an entire family can watch it in theatre together. Because of these rumours, the film gets affected at the box office."
Sandeep concluded by saying, "I am requesting, the entire film industry is going through a loss and one should help us getting the box-office better and not spread the rumours."
