EXCLUSIVE - Gauri Shinde on 25 years of Shah Rukh Khan: He is someone you wish you not only had in your work life but also your whole life
Dear Zindagi's director Gauri Shinde spoke about her experience and the admiration she has for Shah Rukh Khan.
Gauri Shinde in her second directorial got a chance to work with Shah Rukh Khan. We saw the superstar in a never-seen-before avatar as a therapist to Alia Bhatt. Post the film, people expressed their wishes to have a Jehangir Khan in their lives.
Today, SRK is celebrating a silver jubilee in Bollywood and his co-stars and colleagues are congratulating him for entertaining all for these many years. We got in touch with Gauri Shinde and she couldn't stop gushing over King Khan and his immense talent.
She said, "SRK is someone you wish you not only had in your work life but also your whole life! He simply enriches your film and life simultaneously with such ease, grace, fun and respect that you definitely want him to be around always. You laugh with him, you learn with him, you feel alive and work becomes such a joy!"
The talented director further added, "It's not just in Dear Zindagi that he gave such respect to his young co-actor and chose to do a role that may not be quantitatively the bigger one but I have observed that he has been like this in most of his films even if he has been the central character. He has always been so comfortable giving the space to his women co-stars and never trying to overpower them to be a 'man' a 'hero'! That's how he, in fact, ends up being a bigger hero!"
"That also goes for the team he works with ... Which has been my experience ... Everyone feels they are very good and he somehow makes that happen," Gauri added.
The English Vinglish director spoke about how he always showed great care and support to her while filming Dear Zindagi. She stated, "A director has to take care of the entire team and be this strong person at all times and see if all are doing fine but rarely do you get asked, 'Are you doing ok?' But he, he stands beside you, he is on that journey with you showing great care and support."
Gauri made a revelation that people get utterly spoilt when they work with SRK. "The only downside to this largesse is that you get utterly spoilt because you would want and expect only this experience in the future. I think great actors and self-assured human beings will be like this. To be able to work with a magical combination of not just being a great actor but a super fun and intelligent and giving person is sheer luck," shared Gauri.
Shinde concluded by saying, "And I feel young men or men, in general, could learn from him the art of respect and charm without being fake or creepy. They should, in fact, take classes from SRK aka Jehangir Khan for this.
Sweet!
