EXCLUSIVE: Govinda on Reema Lagoo's demise - It's shocking and sad at the same time

Reema Lagoo passed away at the age of 59 after suffering from cardiac arrest. The whole industry is mourning over the loss.

In an unfortunate turn of events, the industry has lost one versatile actor - Reema Lagoo. She passed away at the age of 59 after suffering from cardiac arrest. The actress complained of chest pain on Wednesday night and then, she was rushed to  Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani hospital in Andheri wherein she breathed her last. The whole industry is in shock and Twitter is flooded with messages pouring in on her sad demise. 

We got in touch with Govinda who has worked with Reema in Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain. The actress played the role of his mother and the love she had for her son was one of the high points of the film. When we contacted, Govinda, he said, "I got to know from you. I didn't know about it. It's shocking and sad at the same time. I just have reached on the sets and I might have to cancel the shoot for today."  

Lagoo’s son-in-law, Vinay Waikul, said, "She was complaining of chest pain so we took her to the hospital around 1 AM. She passed away due to a heart attack around 3.15 AM. She was perfectly fine and had no health issues...so it is really shocking for all of us that she is no more with us."

We also got in touch with Mohnish Behl, who played her son in Hum Saath Saath Hai and son-in-law in Hum Aapke Hai Koun. Behl said, "It's the level of comfort that one experience with her, with an actor who is few years senior to you. We worked together in a lot of films and there was this comfort level. You could always sit down with her, approach her, chitchat, be casual and have a light hearted conversation. She was a very welcoming and warm human being. In fact I have a small house in Versova where i used to stay if i had late night shifts and Reema Ji used to stay in opposite and we used to talk from the windows. She was a wonderful woman. It is a terrible loss."

Reema Lagoo is a huge for the industry. She started her career in Hindi and Marathi films in the late 1970s and early 80s. She was best known for playing the on-screen mother to protagonists in hit films like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Hum Saath-Saath Hain. Reema Lagoo also did notable work on television in popular shows like Tu Tu Main Main and Shriman Shrimati.
