EXCLUSIVE: What's the fate of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion's release in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu?
We got in touch with Anil Thadani, Distributor of Baahubali, to know about the fate of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion release in Karnataka.
Just eight days left for the release, SS Rajamouli's film is in trouble and reports claim that the film might not release in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In 2015, Baahubali: The Beginning which created a stir and did well at the box office in Karnataka is now facing an uncertainty in the state. Pro-Kannada organisations have been protesting against the release of the film in Karnataka because they have issues with actor Sathyaraj's (who plays the role of Katappa) statements.
But, Sathyaraj's statement was dated 9 years back. The groups went on to say that they will only call off the bandh if Sathyaraj comes to Bengaluru and apologises to the people of Karnataka. Soon after the issues in Karnataka started boiling up, a civil suit was filed against Baahubali 2. In the civil suit, ACE Media has claimed that MS Sharavanan of Sri Green Productions took a loan from the distributor and is not returning the money. They even requested to stay distribution and exhibition of the film.
However, The Madras High Court has refused to stay the release. Today, even Rajamouli, through a video he has put up on Twitter has asked for a smooth release in Karnataka. Rajamouli said in a video message, “Sathyaraj sir is not the producer or director of the film. He is one among the many artists who have worked in the film. If this movie doesn’t release as planned in Karnataka, he has nothing to lose. It’s unfair to target the film because of some comments he had made."
To know about all the facade, we got in touch with Anil Thadani, Distributor of Baahubali. He told us, "There are no issues as of now except the protests. I think everyone wants the film to release be it, exhibitors or distributors, the trade wants the film to release. When there are protests, they create issues all the time. It's releasing everywhere. I don't have the rights for South, but the film will release." When we asked about whether the film is releasing in Bengaluru or not, he replied back saying, "The film is slated to release and we hope that issues get sorted soon."
We also got in touch with trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai. He said, "I think the film will release on schedule and there wouldn't be any issue any such. In Tamil Nadu, there will be no issues because The Madras High Court has vacated the case."
We tried contacting director SS Rajamouli and producer Shobu Yarlagadda, the two left remained unavailable for any comments.
What do you think will be the fate of Baahubali 2's release in Karnataka? Tell us in the comments below!
