Exclusive! Shah Rukh Khan and Mahira Khan have been promoting Raees separately in Dubai!
Fearing controversy, Mahira Khan has been kept away from promoting Raees with Shah Rukh Khan in Dubai On Thursday night, we reported that Mahira Khan and Shah Rukh Khan would be jointly promoting Raees in Dubai. Naturally, this again led to speculation and the possibility of certain political parties rearing their heads in protest again. By the next day (Friday, January 21), the Raees team had changed their plans. As they had done, when we had reported about Raees and Mahira shooting a song in Dubai in December, last year. They did shoot for the song but a few days later in UAE and Morocco.
Our source in Dubai tells us, “Mahira has been quietly stationed in Dubai for almost a week meeting with the Dubai media and doing radio and other interviews there. She has been spotted in various parts of Dubai all over the week. Mahira was to join SRK on Friday for the press con at the Bollywood Parks but kept away at the last moment as the Raees team feared a backlash back in India. The Raees promotional team traveling in Dubai has been told to strictly keep everything under wraps and not let the media know that Mahira is in Dubai or whether she will be joining the team today on January 22. While questions were asked on working with Mahira in Raees nobody in the media asked the Raees team comprising of Shah Rukh Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, director Rahul Dholakia or producer Ritesh Sidhwani why she wasn’t there. Even the media there know she’s in town but don’t know why she’s not coming for the press cons. Her disappearance there is a mystery which the Raees team is unwilling to unfold right now. Later in the evening, Mahira didn’t go with the team for a radio chat show.”
A fan who had gone for the Bollywood Parks ticketed event told us that Mahira was in Dubai and they were told Mahira would be coming but last minute her appearance was cancelled. Our Dubai source adds, “The actress later did a solo press con in Dubai that evening. She is expected to make a sudden appearance with the Raees team today at the press con at a luxury hotel later in the day. It's become a guessing game with the Dubai media now - Mahira will come or not! It all depends on how the Indian media takes it up here. The Raees team wants to avoid a controversy at all costs right now in the release week and if it means not using Mahira and SRK together to jointly promote the film, then so be it.”
