First of all, very hearty congratulations to you for your incredible success with Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce). The drama is truly extraordinary and unlike anything we’ve seen before. How do you feel about this accomplishment?
I am so happy that there are good results so far and I think it is the result of hard work of all staffs and the actors and actresses.
What was your first impression of the drama when you received the offer for Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce)? What made you ultimately choose this as a project you wanted to work on?
I made my first debut work 10 years ago with the writer, and I was so impressed and honor that I was given a grateful opportunity to make a second breath with the writer after 10 years. Also, I chose this drama because I think I could enjoy the work due to the good director with good scenarios.
You’re one of the most versatile actors in the industry, having played a variety of roles in an even wider range of genres. Which genre do you think is your forte? Are there any genres you would like to take on in the future?
I always try to be faithful to a given role regardless of genre. I've played a lot of bright and good roles, but I want to play a serious and heavy role in the genre.
You’re a person of many talents. From swimming to being a DJ, acting and singing, there’s nothing you cannot do perfectly. Where do you draw inspiration from?
Rather than inspiration, when I start something, I try to enjoy it until the end, and I feel a lot of things from the feelings in it, and I get it from seeing people around me and other acting in my daily life.
In your incredible career, you’ve played both protagonist and antagonistic roles. However, your character in Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce), Pan Sa Hyun, teeters between good and bad. How did you achieve such a perfect balance in your portrayal of the character?
I try to understand the flow and character of the drama, and I tried my best to stick to the script according to the direction of the director and writer.
How would you, personally, react to someone who is like Pan Sa Hyun? What kind of a person would you be in a relationship?
I think the character Pan Sa-Hyun is a good person if he is not a lover but a friend. And in a relationship, I want to be a comfortable person for everyone.
Out of all the characters you have played, which character do you think is closest to your real personality and which one is the most meaningful to you?
I think each role had a partial resemblance. The playful role of Sangmin in the drama, "Five Children," and Junseong in Oh My Venus, who is quiet, are similar, but the most meaningful character is Minsu in the 6-member room.
Out of all the female lead characters in your dramas that you have fallen in love with on-screen, who is the closest to your ideal type?
I have never thought of a character that is close to my ideal type, but I tried to stick to my emotions according to my work.
Millions of people watch your drama to relax after a long day of hard work. What do you do to unwind after a day of filming?
I do not do anything special to relax but I try to sleep as much I can to manage my condition.
Is there any actor/actress that you would like to work with in the future?
There are many senior and junior actors, but I'd like to work with Lee Byung-hun.
Do you have any personal goals you want to achieve in this New Year?
Rather than personal goals, I hope the drama that I am doing will end without any accidents.
Finally, you have millions of fans in India. Once the world is in a better place, would you visit your fans in India? Is there anything you would like to say to your Indian fans in the meantime?
If I have a chance, I'd really like to visit this place. If the world gets better, I hope the day comes when I can go and share a good time with you. Until then, don't get sick and stay healthy.
