Who is hot for C-grade: Aish or Bips?
How many times have you driven past a sleazy poster and had a nice laugh at the movie's name... Remember Khandala House and Bipasha - The Black Beauty?
Each year India produces over a 1000 films. But save for 15-20 biggies that hog the media space, rest die their natural death.
Regardless of whether a film actually takes off or not, as a practice, production houses register titles even before scripts are planned. And if one is lucky enough, a small fish in pond makes good money by selling the film titles to the big guys.
A look at the some of the titles registered with the IMPPA (Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association) and AMPT (Association for Motion and Television Programme Producers) this month and you will discover many such gems.
And believe it or not, the most interesting ones come from the guys whose films grace that shady single screen theatre in your neighbourhood.
Will these films ever see the light of the day? We don't know. Will Yashraj ever want to borrow a name from this list? Post Tashan, you actually can't say. So let us try and see what exactly inspires the producers to come up with these bizarre titles
Popular films are the most common sources for new titles. So while SRK and Big B did their own Don, Ajit Entertainment has gone ahead and registered Don Ki Baraat.
But 24 Frame Creation knows about Don's commitment phobia, so they have gone with Kunwara Don. Gemini Studios has come up with a rather interesting one – Don v/s Don (Farhan Akhtar might actually use it. What say?).
Here's another example, Mahesh Bhatt might be making Raaz2 but a producer named Shirish Chaudhary Sagar has decided to take on him with Aur Ek Raaz. That's not all... Jism has given birth to a Jism Ke Poojari.
Kamal Haasan's Mumbai Express has inspired Gorakhpur-Mumbai Express, while Sohail Khan's Aaryan might just be revived with Aaryan Mera Naam. And if you enjoyed the Shootout At Lokhandwala, get ready for Prasanna Kothari's Murder At Lokhandwala.
Given Ash's huge fan base, all producers would love to cast her in their film. But getting Mrs. Bachchan is not easy. And if you can't get the real thing, the next best option is to name your film after her.
So you have got titles like My Name Is Aishwarya, Aishwarya Mera Naam, Aishwarya-Women On Top, Bachchan Ki Shaadi Mein Jaroor Aana and the classic- Abhi Aish Karle.
Rani comes a close second with Nag Rani, Rani-Queen of Desires, Beerhah Ki Rani and Rambo Raja Revolver Air Rani. Even Bipasha Basu has not been spared.
A couple of months back there were reports of Bipasha fuming over the use of her name in a skin flick called Bipasha - The Black Beauty.
