The untold story of Rishi Kapoor
Neetu Singh met Rishi Kapoor when they were just 14. Their romance, as she describes it, could make a good screenplay. She was cast as Rishi’s leading lady for the first time in Zehreela Insaan. They would go on to become one of Bollywood’s most enduring romantic couples and were cast together in many more films – most of them fun-filled, breezy, romantic comedies. Neetu wore bell-bottoms and tight tops and minis with knee-high boots. She was cute and sexy, cheeky and young. The mid-seventies and eighties belonged to Neetu and Rishi until they got married. Later, Neetu was to see the worst of Rishi’s drinking and violent behaviour. She admitted that only her son Ranbir could protect her from Rishi’s abusive behaviour. She left the Kapoor family in the late 90’s and only returned in 2000 – to take charge of her home and husband – this time, a far more confident person.
Apparently Rishi savored success at an early age with Bobby. It was heady and destructive. Soon, alcohol unleashed Rishi’s darker side.
