Sridevi at India Today Woman Summit & Awards 2013
India Today Woman Summit & Awards 2013 was held at The Hyatt Regency in New Delhi on Friday, April 19, 2013. The ceremony threw light on women's status and what was needed to improve their standing in society.
Prominent women speakers from all walks of life spoke on various topics related to women's issues including Sridevi. She felt concerned about the lack of security for women even in big cities and her heart goes out to the families of victims of sexual violence.
Sridevi told what it is to be a screen goddess and a mother a tthe same time. She mentioned that she is very systematic person who believed in the dictum "no pain, no gain". She also added that she played tennis with her daughters and husband to keep fit!
She said, "Industry has undergone a sea change from the days when she ruled the roost like the dialogues which had to be dubbed back and actresses changing costumes under the biggest tree nearby".
She exclaimed that she leads an ordinary life and was like "any other good mother". According to her, motherhood is the most beautiful experience.
Among the current Bollywood divas, Sridevi admires Vidya Balan in Kahaani, Kareena Kapoor in Talaash and Priyanka Chopra in Barfi! She admits that she was a great fan of Meryl Streep!
Talking about the cold war space she shared with Madhuri Dixit, she said they had both been busy with their respective careers back then. Madhuri was always warm and humble whenever they would meet. She enjoyed dancing with Madhuri on a recent TV show and would love to do a film with her soon..
She happily says her hubby Boney Kapoor started with wooing her mother. "I made an offer of Rs 11 lakh when she had sought Rs 10 lakh for her daughter," he said, much to the audience's amusement. Years of relentless pursuit--including a trip to Switzerland where she was shooting--finally convinced Sridevi that a married Boney was indeed serious about her!
