Sharmila Tagore walks the ramp for Joy Mitra at Wills Fashion Week.
Space for self
With an edge of romance and nostalgia, Joy Mitra didn’t fail to compile stories and a palette
of emotions. As a fusion of Indian saris, long jackets and anarkalis are displayed down the
ramp the magical feel of the whole environment lifts everyone’s mood. Earthy tones like black
and brown are mixed with some maroons and indigos. We also see a hint of sap green. The
collection plays hide-and-seek as we see fabrics from wool, to corduroys, silks, cottons and
georgettes, which add grandeur to the collection. Well-accessorised, the collection had a lot
of texture, hand embroidery, thread work, 3D embroidery and prints. Shawls on top of the
ensemble were a special feature.
Recreating the magic of Malgudi days, Joy Mitra sure has lent a human touch and sensitivity to
his collection, which creates a natural bond with the collection. The show ended with a guest
appearance by Sharmila Tagore, who looking lovely in a maroon sari.
