Shah Rukh Khan doesn't get it!
Even if the law allows it we don't think Shah Rukh should be smoking in the close proximity of Farah Khan who is pregnant with triplets and happens to be his very close friend and colleague.
As an actor Shah Rukh Khan may have matched the peaks of popularity scaled by Amitabh Bachchan during his prime, but Shah Rukh still has a lot to learn from Amitabh - conducting himself with grace and humility for one.
When we recently reported that the obscure Panaji based National Organization for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) had served a legal notice on Shah Rukh for smoking in public, we defended Shah Rukh by saying that the motivation behind the legal notice was dubious.
In January 2006, NOTE had served a similar notice on Amitabh Bachchan because billboards and posters of a still from the film Family showed him smoking.
Even though he was not at fault and NOTE was way out of line, Amitabh issued an unconditional apology and promised to make immediate amends.
Shah Rukh on the other hand, has hit back at NOTE and threatened to sue them for sending him the legal notice. He has the money to do so. We know that.
NOTE issued the notice to Shah Rukh for smoking during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in October and at the recent Twenty20 match in Mumbai against Australia.
In his rejoinder to NOTE, Shah Rukh claims that on both occasion he was not smoking in public because the properties on which he was photographed smoking were private.
It beats us how he can claim he was smoking in private when he was in the midst of the press. By resorting to petty pedantry to defend himself Shah Rukh is sure to disappoint many of his fans, instead of winning more.
Shah Rukh could use a similar logic to defend what he is doing in the photo above - smoking in close proximity of Farah Khan who is pregnant with triplets and happens to be his very close friend and colleague.
What he really needs to do is look at himself in the mirror and ask if what he is doing in the photo above is correct. Whatever be the answer, he should then smile into the mirror and catch a glimpse of his nicotine stained teeth.
