Readers pick: Bollywood's most over-rated
Rediff asked the reader to vote for the most over-rated actors, well here are the results. I have also posted my comments and I would like to know your opinion. There's a thin line between good and great. What may strike as effective might not necessarily be exceptional.
Shah Rukh Khan- The reason was that he has made a career out of playing Raj/ Rahul clones in mush after mush. And to add to the injury, won awards too!
( I agree)
Rajnikant
Be it his outlandish avatars, exaggerated actions or one-of-a-kind mannerisms, one can never get enough of Rajnikant's antics. Well, almost.
( I don’t watch his movies)
Kareena Kapoor
She is the toast of tinsel town, at the moment, riding high on the success of Jab We Met. Having said that, some of our readers are far from impressed by the Tashan babe.
Kareena's excitable turn as Geet in JBW have won most awards in town as well as earned her the adjective, 'over-the-top'.
( I agree, I think JBM was Shahid’s movie)
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Beauty is synonymous with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But it's no substitute for talent, you say.
( I actually liked her performance in Jodhaa Akbar but I don’t know)
Salman Khan
His funny man deliveries in Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Jaan-E-Mann, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Partner has readers tagging him 'repetitive' and 'typecast'. Others believe 'acting isn't body-building' and that his 'charm only lies in flexing muscles.'
( I agree, I like Salman Khan but its same as SRK)
Deepika Padukone
Her money-spinning debut in Bollywood won Deepika Padukone prestigious awards, precious roles and prime endorsements. Good enough to heralded as the next numero uno in the making? No way, protest our readers.
'The media highlighted her too much', 'All she did was smile in Om Shanti Om' are a couple of sampled grievances, in your opinion.
( I am waiting for her next movie. I think then we will know if she is a good actress or not. She is pretty)
Amitabh Bachchan
He's one of Bollywood's most beloved icons. Adept at comedy, action and romance, Amitabh Bachchan pretty much defines entertainment. At 60 plus, the angry young man of Hindi films continues to regale his fans with films like Baghban, Black and Cheeni Kum.
So is Big B as good as it gets? Not quite! His 'hamming' Babban in Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag appears to have rubbed off a lot of readers the wrong way.
( I agree, I lost respect for him when he started appearing in every sh*t movie.)
Rani Mukerji
If Black made everyone sit up and take notice, Rani Mukerji's disinterested appearance in flicks like Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Ta Ra Rum Pum, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya seems to have severely affected her popularity.
Besides her terrible choice or roles, make-up and outfits, Rani has also been on the receiving end for her monotonous pairing with Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
( I agree absolutely)
Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek Bachchan's performance in films like Yuva, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Dus and Guru met with applause and appreciation. Sadly, his box-office efficiency, as a solo hero, still remains questioned.
Readers, also, feel the Drona and Dilli 6 star has an unfair advantage over other actors owing to his illustrious surname and influential daddy.
( I don’t know)
Ajay Devgan
Despite sterling acting jobs in gripping dramas like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Zakhm, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Company, Gangaajal, Bhoot, Raincoat and Omkara, the two-time National Award winner turned director (with U Me Aur Hum) finds himself on this not-so-flattering list.
Perhaps his tacky turn in Cash, Sunday and Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag has got something to do with it. Readers, while acknowledge his excellence in intense fare, fault Devgan's inability to click in comedies and term him 'one-dimensional'.
( He is okay)
