Rating Shah Rukh Khan!…
With Chak De India already hitting the theatres, Indiatimes Movies gives its surfers a look at the king Khan’s most notable performances so far…
Swades
Ashutosh Gowariker’s Swades saw the baadshah of Indian cinema in a completely different light! As Mohan Bhargav, a crusader who wants to better his country Shah Rukh once again proved that he has much more to him than the ability to sing romantic songs and woo his leading ladies… We not only loved his performance but also his stylish Allen Solly formal wear in this one! Swades may not be as commercially successful as Khan’s previous block busters but it is definitely his career’s best performance so far…
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
The film which made Shah Rukh aka Raj, a rage not only amongst the young girls and women but also kids and family! The film established Shah Rukh as the ‘most romantic hero’ of the Indian Cinema.
His flirtatious eyes, sarcastic grin and dimpled smile made the women go ga ga over him, making him the ‘heartthrob’ of Inidan cinema… we can watch this film for like infinite times only for you Shah Rukh!
Devdas
Post innumerable comparisons with legendary actor Dilip Kumar for this coveted role of a doomed and drunkard lover… Shah Rukh proved that he can carry off the very role which was touted as the biggest challenge of his career.
He even got really drunk for few scenes which demanded him to look the same! This effort of his didn’t go unnoticed though and according to us this would remain as one of his finest performances till date. No wonder even Saira Banu and Dilip Kumar said that only actor other than Dilip Kumar himself who can play this complex role is Shah Rukh Khan!
Kal Ho Naa Ho
As a patient suffering from cancer and wanting to live his life to the fullest before his death, SRK left everyone moist eyed from theatre.
The film which was speculated as Rajesh Khanna’s ‘Anand’ remake went on to become a huge success, all thanks to Shah Rukh and his ‘chemistry’ with Saif in the film!
Kabhi Haa Kabhi Naa
Notorious, impulsive, innocent, foolhardy and extremely adorable. Shah Rukh as the charming Sunil made everyone shed a tear with his touching performance in this film.
His cheerful demeanor, childish acts and hopeless romantic act wowed one and all, making this performance of his as his fifth most spectacular act in our list.
Darr
Probably the only film other than Baazigar, where Shah Rukh acted so well that he made us hate him to the core!
Such powerful was the performance that it made all the girls think twice before rejecting their aashsiq’s proposal! This act was simply scintillating SSSSSSSSShah Rukh!
Pardes
How long can you go to protect a girl you love? That too, a girl who is all set to tie the knot with your friend! Shah Rukh made every Indian proud with his beautiful depiction of an ideal Indian man in Subhash Ghai’s spectacular film Pardes.
Be it his expression of anger, love, patriotism… Shah Rukh excelled in all the departments making his character seem so real …
Baazigar
Harke bhi jitney wale ko kehte hain Baazigar! This dialogue must have been the highly used pickup line by roadside romeos few years ago but can you blame them? Each time women saw Shah Rukh say that they would go weak in the knees, the way Kajol did in the film! Even his negative role was appreciated by all.
His sensitivity as an actor was visible here as in spite of him playing a negative role, he touched everyone’s heart and managed to gather everyone’s sympathy at the end of the film!
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna
Again a grey character, probably the most complicated character he has played till date, Shah Rukh played a selfish loser who gets intimidated and jealous by his wife’s achievements so much that he drifts away from his family and falls for another married woman!
A character as negative as this was also played with finesse by Khan…
Chalte Chalte
Diehard romantic, sensitive to the core… Chalte Chalte saw a Shah Rukh who played the boy-next-door middle class man he had played in his earlier films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, etc.
His constant bickering with Rani in the film seemed so real that it brought out the real life husband - wife chemistry perfectly.
Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham
His sarcasm, quick wit and perfect comic timing were seen in Karan Johar’s multi-starrer.
The film brought together three mega stars - Amitabh, Hrithik and Shah Rukh but such was the man’s performance, he stood tall and made his presence felt against his ‘taller’ co-stars!
