For all who thought Om Shanti Om was actress Deepika Padukone's debut film, this may just come as a piece of news. The actress who is being promoted as the next big thing in Bollywood has in fact starred in a Kannada film called (hold your breath) Aishwarya.

The film is about a young girl Aishwarya (played by Deepika) who makes a woman-hating businessman (believe it or not) called Abhishek (Upendra) fall head over heels in love with her. The story of the movie roughly goes thus: Aishwarya joins Abhishek in his ad agency but gets rather put off by his antics. She throws in the towel and decides to walk away from the job. But it is Abhishek's uncle who plays cupid, tells her about Abhishek's past and coaxes Aishwarya into returning to his nephew.

Never mind if the names of the lead pair ring a bell. But Aishwarya, the film and Deepika, the actress have received rave reviews. Hoping perhaps to encash on the actress' Bollywood debut, PVR Cinemas in Mumbai are actually screening Aishwarya promoting it as her real debut.

Marketing Manager of the multiplex giant Advait Purandare said, "PVR Cinemas is screening Aishwarya at PVR Mulund with two shows daily from November 2. It is a little known fact that Deepika made her debut in a Kannada film. And we are exhibiting it in Mumbai."

So if you can't wait for another week to catch the newest star, you can as well catch her talking in a South Indian tongue.
