Laaga Chunari Mein Daag(STILLS)
Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ is an extraordinary story of a woman, her sacrifice, and her eventual fall from grace.
The movie, a Yashraj Films presentation, features a host of talented actors like Rani Mukherjee , Konkona Sen Sharma , Jaya Bachchan , Abhishek Bachchan , Kunal Kapoor and Anupam Kher .
Pradeep Sarkar , who made his directorial debut in 2005 with Parineeta , is the film’s director.
At the centre of the story are two sisters, Natasha (Rani Mukherjee) and Chutki (Konkona Sen). Apparently, Jaya Bachchan plays their mother while Anupam Kher plays the patriarch of the household. Abhishek Bachchan is Rani’s love interest and Kunal Kapoor is paired with Konkona Sen.
The happiness of a close-knit family in rural India is shattered by a sudden twist of fate. Faced with financial crisis, the family makes a tough choice.
The two sisters move to the city and discover that life in a metropolis is much different from the one in their rural home. From what follows, the lives of the two sisters are changed forever. Apparently, the story is about the elder sister’s (Rani’s) downward spiral into amoral life, into prostitution.
The movie has been shot in Varanasi and Bern (in Switzerland).
While shooting on the ghats of Varanasi, an unsavory incident happened when Rani’s bodyguards roughed up a couple of mediapersons, fans and locals. This lead to a lot of criticism in the media, compelling Rani to apologize for the incident.
‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ has music by Shantanu Moitra and lyrics by Swanand Kirkire. The story has been written by Aditya Chopra who is also the co-producer.
The movie is set to release on October 12.
